Expression: Steven

Expression: Steven, originally uploaded by TGKW.

"The National Theatre of Scotland has been working with S3 pupils (aged 13/14) at Kilwinning Academy to produce an exhibition of photographs called First Time You Saw Me.

During weeks of workshops, a delightful group of people from NTS have been helping the children to find a way of expressing themselves in a few words and then finding an interesting way to present that text. I was called in to take the pictures last week: here is one of them.

For those outside of Scotland, "Gon oot wae ma mates" translates as "Going out with my friends.""

"Ever have a morning when you shoot more good shots in ten minutes than you have shot in the past year?
This morning contained that ten minutes.
Ten minutes that I had before beiginning the school bus run.
What a morning! The light mist made everything wonderful to my eye."

Tunnels (1)

Tunnels (1), originally uploaded by TGKW.

"There is an entire network of disused railway tunnels beneath the streets of Glasgow and, yesterday afternoon, Euan and I went to explore one of them. Essentially, it's an indulgence of schoolboy impulses, but taking the camera along can legitimise almost any silly or childish endeavour by the possibility of taking a decent photo or two."

The Puffer

The Puffer, originally uploaded by gms.

"This boat is called a Puffer. Hundreds of these boats used to be seen puffing up and down the Clyde and West Coast delivering coal, timber, cattle, families and just about anything that needed taken to remote islands and villages during early to mid 20th Century. The most famous Puffer is the fictional "Vital Spark" from Neil Munro's "Para Handy" stories. This Puffer is not the original, but used to be called the "Eilean Eisdeal"."
