The Puffer

The Puffer, originally uploaded by gms.

"This boat is called a Puffer. Hundreds of these boats used to be seen puffing up and down the Clyde and West Coast delivering coal, timber, cattle, families and just about anything that needed taken to remote islands and villages during early to mid 20th Century. The most famous Puffer is the fictional "Vital Spark" from Neil Munro's "Para Handy" stories. This Puffer is not the original, but used to be called the "Eilean Eisdeal"."
