Forth Rail Bridge

Forth Rail Bridge, originally uploaded by rg250871.

"For those interested in the technical details...
100 exposures overlaid with 'startrails.exe' (pretty good little free tool). 30 seconds per exposure, ISO 400, F7.1. The exposure time was a compromise between over-exposing the bridge (it ends up looking a bit too red here) and getting enough stars exposed. I think in the depths of winter with a totally clear sky you could get a better balance.

There were clouds skidding over the sky - looks amazing in the camera preview screen when you whiz through all the images quickly! However this has watered down the stars a little. Still, for the Forth, I was surprised at the amount of stars that were visible. Given the amount of exposure time, all the trains and ships are reduced to lines of light."

Biowoman

Plans to build a 90ft-tall statue of a naked woman in Dundee have moved on after the project was given funding for a study to take it forward. It had been suggested that "Biowoman" could be erected at the city's Duncan of Jordanstone art school.

The Scottish Executive has now provided funds for a four-month feasibility study on placing it near Dundee's Sensation science centre.

The sculpture was conceived by international artist David Mach.

It is hoped that Biowoman, which would ultimately have to be approved by planners, could form part of a wider development by Sensation to create Scotland's first science learning centre.

Sensation chief executive Paul Jennings said: "Realising Biowoman would be a huge confidence statement for the city and comes at a time when it has a great deal to be confident about."

He added: "The feasibility study will determine what we can do, how much it will cost and what the new elements will look like.

"This is single step in a longer process but an important one nevertheless."

Carol Pope, leader of the Dundee University team which devised the project, added: "There is a long journey ahead but Dundee could yet be the base of the tallest - and some might say the boldest - sculpture in the UK."
