Radio Rental

Radio Rental, originally uploaded by The Flying Monk.

"In a controversial announcement due to be made later today, Angus Half-Bottle, chief executive of Western Isles Hospital, will appoint Tolsta resident and former wild child, Lexy MacQueen as managing director of the recently renovated multi-million pound Neurological unit. Lexy brings with her many years of hospital experience. She was a regular resident on the ward during her teenage years, having repeatedly committed crimes against the Sabbath. Following months of intensive treatment for persistently hanging out her washing on a Sunday and using bolt croppers to release the swings in her local play park for Stornoway's restless golfers, a reformed Lexy went on to create the island's first, and so far only, hospital radio station, Radio Rental. The station specialises in 130BPM hardcore drum and bass, with a smattering of dubstep and grime. DJ Bedpan is taking over Lexy's 6pm to 8pm visiting hours show, 'Testing Your Patients'. It's not all change though; Jori Kim continues to read excerpts from the Argos catalogue every Sunday between noon and 1:30pm. Be sure to tune in to his programme this coming Sunday, for the all important garden furniture section.

PS... Radio Rental - rhyming slang for 'mental' (crazy / angry). Coined from the well known chain of TV hire shops in the UK. e.g. "You wait till Morag hears Lexy boarded the Sunday ferry again, she'll go Radio Rental!"

Demise, originally uploaded by spodzone.

"The morning after: I counted 3 places where trees had completely obstructed the road. The top-left is what remains of my favoured willow "cephalopod".

Still tonnes of green tree-salad littering the roads everywhere as though the place has been stirred."

The Guardian, originally uploaded by Tannachy.

"A shot of our dog watching over the sheep as they eat. Never really planned this, but the sky and clouds looked promising for a sunset and I couldn't find anything interesting for a foreground. I'm not sure it comes off that well in this image, but I liked the pink highlight on the sheep's backs from the sun."

The Bridge is Light

The Bridge is Light, originally uploaded by Semi-detached.

"This is the Forth Road Bridge at night, about 1 hour after sunset, so the sky is still quite blue. The pink glow in the distance is the light from all the streetlights of Edinburgh and South Queensferry.

It's amazing how much the bridge lights up at night from underneath, it really does look like something out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind! The glow reflection on the water is quite detailed and bright because of the long exposure.

Shame about the weather on this night in terms of the temperature, though, it was absolutely freezing! I couldn't feel my fingers towards the end, which is not a great sign (and not helpful for packing up the gear, unscrewing the camera from the tripod etc...)

This was a 94 second exposure on the tripod with no filters and minimal photoshop, just a bit of contrast and brightness.

Nikon D300 I Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 I Tripod I thick clothes I Ipod I headphones I good tunes to get me through the session."
